A new pilot program allows visitors to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating vendors and enjoy them at the Market. Here’s what you need to know
SEATTLE — Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market is debuting a new pilot program in early June, allowing visitors to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating vendors and enjoy while wandering the Market.
The “Sip and Savor” pilot program begins Friday, June 5 and will run through Labor Day weekend from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. A previous proposal of the program was titled “Sip and Stroll.”
Approved by the Pike Place Market Preservation & Development Authority (PDA) Council Executive Committee on Thursday, the program aims to support small businesses and create new opportunities “for visitors to linger.”
Participating businesses include 24 local favorites, such as Rachel’s Ginger Beer, Lonely Siren, Old Stove Brewing, Alibi Room and more.
Visitors who participate are required to be over 21 years old, show a valid ID, wear a wristband and drink from designated cups in specifically marked areas. Staff will be roaming the Market to ensure safe consumption.
To further support the program, “Sip and Savor” days coincide with the closure of vehicle traffic to the Market.
Along with the pilot program, more outdoor seating will be available for visitors with 50 additional picnic tables along Pike Place and Market Front installed for the summer.
