The United States Coast Guard was searching for a person who reportedly fell off a 12-foot vessel near Point Wilson on Friday morning.
PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. — A person who reportedly fell off a vessel near Port Townsend on Friday morning has been found dead, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The United States Coast Guard launched a search for the person just before noon. According to the Coast Guard, the person was believed to have fell from a 12-foot vessel near Point Wilson, which is about 3 miles from Port Townsend.
Just before 4 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) announced that the person was found dead.
Officials said the incident remains under investigation.
Search efforts included assistance from the JCSO, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, and Jefferson Search and Rescue, the Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound and the Royal Canadian Air Force.
