The Corvette was impounded after a Jan. 4 pursuit. Weeks later, prosecutors say the same driver stole it from a tow yard.

SOUTH PRAIRIE, Wash. — A man who prosecutors say was driving a Corvette when it was impounded after a Washington State Patrol pursuit is now accused of stealing the same car from a South Prairie tow yard weeks later.

Duop Tiet Pidor was charged May 18 in Pierce County Superior Court with second-degree burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. Prosecutors say the charges stem from a Jan. 30 burglary at Hometown Towing and Recovery.

Court documents say the yellow 2014 Chevrolet Corvette was stolen from the business at 213 Eleanor Ct. NW around 2:46 a.m.

Investigators said surveillance video from a nearby business showed a Tesla dropping off a suspect, who then ran toward the tow yard.

Two locks securing the gates had been cut, and tire tracks showed where the Corvette left the property, according to investigators.

The Corvette had been impounded by WSP on Jan. 4 after a pursuit. Court documents say Pidor was identified as the driver in that case.

Investigators said the tow yard owner reported never receiving the Corvette’s keys and believed they may have been left inside the car.

The vehicle had no plates, and a Department of Licensing check showed no current registered or legal owner on Jan. 30, according to court documents.

Court documents say Pidor went to Hometown Towing on Jan. 15 to retrieve property from the impounded Corvette. He showed staff his Washington driver’s license and collected two jackets.

On Jan. 26, someone described in court documents as Pidor’s friend called the tow yard and asked why Pidor could not redeem the vehicle. The tow yard owner said the Corvette would be released once a $2,623.07 balance was paid.

The stolen Corvette was later found in the 30800 block of East Lake Morton Drive Southeast in King County.
