Man attacked with blunt object in critical condition in Seattle

The unprovoked assault occurred near a downtown I-5 overpass, per police reports.

SEATTLE — A 34-year-old man is in critical condition following a brutal assault early Monday morning, per the Seattle Police Department.

Officers responded to emergency calls of a man lying on the ground on the 500 block of Madison Avenue near the Renaissance Hotel around midnight on May 4. The man had suffered significant head trauma and was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment by Seattle Fire Department first responders.

Police initially theorized the man had fallen and struck his head, but surveillance footage from nearby buildings revealed that the man had been attacked. Per SPD police reports, the recordings showed the victim bent over in front of a hotel when the assailant approached and struck the man in the head with an object, knocking him to the ground. The suspect then continued to hit the man until leaving the scene.

The suspect is not currently in custody, per the Seattle Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call the Seattle Police Department’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
