OLYMPIA, Wash. — A woman is suspected of stealing a truck in Olympia, then recklessly driving while eluding police with a baby inside the vehicle, according to new court documents.

The suspect remains in jail on $15,000 bail and her arraignment is set for May 8. KING 5 does not name suspects until they are charged in court.

Around 6:40 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, Olympia police responded to a reported vehicle theft in the 100 block of Lybarger Street Northeast in Thurston County.

Police began following the vehicle as the driver continued south on Interstate 5. As police attempted to pull over the vehicle by using emergency lights and sirens, the driver made “abrupt and reckless” moves on the road, court documents state.

After exiting I-5, the driver continued to speed down roads, blew through multiple stop signs, crossed into oncoming traffic, and drove into a construction zone, court documents state.

Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies continued to pursue, eventually bringing the vehicle to a stop with tire spikes and a grapple. When deputies approached the vehicle, the female suspect exited the vehicle carrying a baby.

Deputies were able to take custody of the baby, who is now with Child Protective Services. Court documents state the baby was neither in a proper car seat nor restrained at all inside the vehicle.
