TACOMA, Wash. — A Tacoma infant’s February death has now been ruled a homicide, according to the Tacoma Police Department and the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police said officers responded to the emergency department at Tacoma General Hospital around 6:52 p.m. Feb. 10 after an infant was brought in and later pronounced dead.
Officers spoke with medical staff and the person who took the infant to the hospital.
Detectives with the Tacoma Police Department’s Investigations Bureau responded because the case involved the death of an infant. Police said that is standard practice in those cases.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office later took custody of the child as part of its investigation.
On April 20, detectives were notified that the medical examiner had determined the manner of death was homicide, according to Tacoma police.
The medical examiner identified the child as a male who died from multiple sharp-force injuries.
Tacoma police said the case has been under investigation since February.
The department said the medical examiner’s ruling does not change the investigative process, but it does formally classify the case as a homicide investigation.
No arrests have been made.
