KENT, Wash. — Kent police are investigating after a 15-year-old girl died Wednesday morning following a 911 call about shots fired near Alder Lane, the department said.

Kent police said Thursday they are investigating her death as a homicide.

Officers were called around 4:20 a.m. June 3 to the area of the 400 block of Alder Lane. When they arrived, police found an unconscious female with visible injuries to her face and head.

Officers gave her life-saving medical aid until medics arrived, police said. She did not survive.

Police said it was not immediately clear whether she had been hit by gunfire or died from another cause.

Investigators spent much of Wednesday processing the scene. KING 5 observed detectives searching a small field with a K-9. Detectives also focused on a red car in the apartment complex parking lot, swabbing its side, and placing evidence markers around it.

Kent police detectives responded and took over the investigation.

As of Wednesday evening, police had not released the victim’s identity, announced any arrests or identified any suspects.

The King County Medical Examiner will determine the girl’s cause of death.

Anyone with information about the death or the girl is asked to call the Kent Police Department tip line at 253-856-5808 or email [email protected]. Police said anyone with time-sensitive information should call 911.
