Car drives onto elevated light rail tracks in Seattle

Images of the scene show a red SUV on the elevated light rail tracks of the Mount Baker Station.

SEATTLE — Sound Transit’s 1 Line light rail service is suspended from Stadium Station to Othello Station after a vehicle drove onto the elevated tracks at the Mount Baker Station.

Trains continue to run from Lynnwood City Center Station to Stadium Station, and Federal Way Downtown Station to Othello Station.

Images provided to KING 5 of the scene show a red SUV on the light rail tracks. It’s unclear how the car drove to that location.

Seattle Fire said the car was found in the northbound tracks. The driver, a 70-year-old woman, was able to exit the car and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The power has been shut off to the tracks, according to Sound Transit. Emergency responders are on scene and removed the car by towing it back down the tracks just before 8 p.m.

Sound Transit has ordered shuttle buses to replace service between Stadium and Othello stations.

There is no estimated time for when service will resume.
