
Police say they responded to an apartment complex around 9:38 p.m. Monday evening to reports of gunfire.
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Monday night at the Avana Star Lake Apartments in Federal Way.
Officers responded to the complex in the 2400 block of South Star Lake Road around 9:38 p.m. after reports of gunfire, according to police. When they arrived, they found the teen in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
Police are searching for a 28-year-old man in connection with the shooting. Authorities said the victim and the suspected shooter knew each other.
The events leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Federal Way Police Department’s non-emergency line.
Federal Way Public Schools confirmed that the boy shot was a Thomas Jefferson High School student. School counselors and administrative teams are being made available for support. Families are being encouraged to contact their child’s school if they believe their child could benefit from additional counseling.
