RENTON, Wash. — A man has been charged and arrested in connection with a fatal 2023 crash involving a school bus in Renton.

Robert Anthony Trevino, 22, was charged April 30 with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

Trevino was initially arrested at the time of the crash on suspicion of driving under the influence on Dec. 19, 2023. Trevino was re-booked Wednesday in the King County Jail on the vehicular homicide and assault charges, according to jail records.

In charging documents, King County prosecutors allege Trevino had items commonly associated with drug use in the vehicle at the time of the crash, including aluminum foil, lighters, mini-torches, baggies and hypodermic needles. According to charging documents, blood tests taken soon after the crash showed methamphetamine and fentanyl in Trevino’s system. The test results were returned to police Feb. 4.

A responding officer reported Trevino’s eyes “appeared droopy” and that he was not “in [his] right mind.”

The victim, Ashley Michelle O’Neal, was in the vehicle with Trevino at the time of the crash. Prosecutors allege Trevino passed another vehicle at a speed exceeding 70 mph. While taking a curve, prosecutors said Trevino lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a school bus.

The crash caused extensive damage. O’Neal was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries from damage to the Chevrolet Cavalier’s passenger side.

Trevino had six pending cases in other jurisdictions at the time of his arrest April 30, 2026. Three of those cases — two out of Aberdeen and one out of Pierce County — were for possession of a controlled substance and had active bench warrants.

Trevino remains held in the King County Jail. The state of Washington has requested his bail be set at $100,000.
