A neighbor allegedly stabbed a man during a dispute at an apartment complex in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood.

SEATTLE — Seattle police arrested a stabbing suspect Tuesday after an hours-long standoff where the attacker barricaded themselves inside an apartment.

Officers responded to the 6100 block of 4th Avenue South for reports of a stabbing just before 2:30 a.m., according to the Seattle Police Department. Authorities said a man suffered stab wounds to the abdomen and a laceration to his face near his eyebrow.

The man and his neighbor got into a dispute, and it turned into a fight, according to Seattle Police Department Det. Eric Munoz. The neighbor pulled out a knife and injured the man, Munoz said.

Members of the Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene after the stabbing suspect barricaded themselves inside the apartment. The suspect was believed to be armed with a knife, possibly a machete, and police said there could be additional weapons in the home.

About six hours later, SWAT arrived at the scene with a search warrant. They entered the apartment and arrested the suspect without incident shortly before 9:30 a.m.

The suspect is expected to be booked into King County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.

The Seattle Fire Department said an approximately 34-year-old man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. He underwent emergency surgery and is expected to survive.
