SEATTLE — Seattle police say three men were shot early Monday outside a Capitol Hill nightclub after a fight escalated into gunfire.

Investigators say the shooting happened around 1:10 a.m. outside Cultura nightclub in the 900 block of East Pike Street. Surveillance video obtained by KING 5 shows a fight breaking out near the club entrance before the group moved down the sidewalk moments before shots were fired.

Video reviewed by KING 5 appears to capture nine gunshots ringing out across the street. Seconds later, one man can be seen running back toward the club clutching his hip before collapsing on the sidewalk as people rushed to help and called 911.

Seattle police spokesperson Eric Muñoz said one of the men involved in the altercation was struck by gunfire, along with two bystanders who were not involved in the fight.

Police identified the victims as a 26-year-old man who investigators say was involved in the altercation, along with a 23-year-old man and a 28-year-old man described as innocent bystanders. Two victims were reported in serious condition and one in critical condition after being taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Muñoz praised nightclub security guards for responding quickly after the shooting.

“They did exactly as they were trained to do,” Muñoz said. “None of them were involved in the shooting.”

Investigators believe between two and three suspects fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Detectives are still working to determine what led to the fight and whether additional people involved in the altercation could face charges.

“There were multiple suspects involved in the altercation,” Muñoz said. “There are varying degrees of responsibilities involved in the fighting there.”

Seattle police’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit is leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Seattle police.
