Around 10 p.m. on Sunday night, University of Washington Police responded to the Nordheim Court Apartments, an off-campus student housing building, and found a woman stabbed to death in the laundry room.
The victim, identified by officials as a 19-year-old transgender woman, has not yet been formally identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police are working to find a motive and what led up to the stabbing.
UW President Robert J. Jones issued a statement acknowledging the pain the attack has inflicted on the campus community, and specifically recognizing its potential impact on LGBTQIA+ students.
“While investigators have not yet identified a suspect or a motive, I want to recognize that when violence affects a trans person, it can be especially worrying to our LGBTQIA+ community members,” Jones wrote.
