SEATTLE — Police are searching for a suspect after an apparent homicide at a University of Washington student housing building Sunday night, according to university officials.

The University of Washington Police Department said officers responded to the Nordheim Court Apartments, an off-campus student housing complex, around 10:20 p.m. for reports of a death. Investigators are treating the incident as a homicide.

Seattle police detectives are also investigating the homicide at 5000 25th Avenue Northeast, according to a post from the Seattle Police Department on X. A public information officer was dispatched to the scene shortly after midnight.

The suspect is described as a man between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7 with a slim build, black hair and a beard. Police said he may be wearing a button-up shirt under a dark blue vest along with blue jeans.

Officials urged anyone who sees the suspect to call 911 immediately.

Shortly after the incident, police advised Nordheim Court residents to remain inside their homes and lock their doors and windows. However, in an update issued around 12:56 a.m., officials said residents no longer needed to shelter in place, though the death investigation remains active.

Authorities have not released any information about the victim.

University officials acknowledged the impact the incident may have on students and staff and said support resources are available through the UW Counseling Center, SafeCampus, Husky Assist and the Washington State Employee Assistance Program.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
