REDMOND, Wash. — A 23-year-old man confessed to stealing two vehicles, driving across state lines and burglarizing two homes on the Eastside and in south Puget Sound after turning himself in to the Redmond Police Department.
At about 10:30 p.m. April 21, the suspect drove a stolen vehicle to the police department and asked to speak with officers. He told investigators that on April 18, he entered a home in the 7800 block of 170th Place NE, stole a bank card and a vehicle key fob, and drove away in the vehicle.
The suspect said he abandoned the vehicle after it ran out of power in Tumwater. He then admitted to stealing another vehicle in the area after burglarizing a second home, police said. The suspect drove the second vehicle to Oregon, traveled throughout the state and later returned to Redmond to surrender to police.
Officers located the first vehicle using a vehicle-tracking application. Redmond police coordinated with the south Puget Sound agency that recovered the vehicle, linking the suspect to the Tumwater burglary and additional vehicle thefts.
Investigators said the suspect matched surveillance footage obtained during the investigation.
“This case highlights the value of quick reporting, technology-assisted investigations, and strong collaboration between law enforcement agencies,” Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe said. “Criminals who target our communities should know agencies will work together across jurisdictions to find them and pursue criminal charges.”
