
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the Chehalis death to contact investigators.
CHEHALIS, Wash. — A 21-year-old man was booked into the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder after deputies found a man dead Tuesday afternoon in Chehalis, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and jail logs.
Deputies were called at about 1:15 p.m. to the 1500 block of Rice Road after a report that someone had heard a relative was dead in the area, the sheriff’s office said.
When deputies arrived, they searched the area and found a man who was dead and had signs of trauma.
Detectives took over the investigation and identified a person of interest.
A member of the Sheriff’s Enforcement Team later found that person, and detectives interviewed him, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the interview, detectives said they established probable cause to arrest him. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
The 21-year-old has not yet been charged.
The victim’s family has been notified by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.
An autopsy has been scheduled. The coroner’s office is expected to release more information about the man, including his cause and manner of death.
The sheriff’s office said there is no further danger to the public.
The case remains active, and the sheriff’s office said no additional information is being released at this time because of the nature of the investigation.
