PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Officers have arrested a man who is accused of driving at a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy before law enforcement shot him over the weekend.
South Sound Gang Task Force officers arrested Skyler Cantrell, 23, on Monday around 12:30 p.m. after receiving information about his whereabouts.
Cantrell had gunshot wounds from the shooting on Sunday and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is expected to be booked into the Pierce County Jail once he is well enough to be transported.
Law enforcement had been searching for Cantrell for over a day.
The incident began Sunday around 2 a.m. when a Pierce County deputy saw Cantrell slumped over in a vehicle in Midland. Cantrell had multiple felony warrants, including second-degree assault, eluding and escape from community custody.
Deputies positioned their vehicles to keep Cantrell from escaping. He woke up and began ramming vehicles, according to the Pierce County Force Investigation Team (PCFIT), which is investigating the shooting. He allegedly rammed an escape route and drove at a deputy.
Shots were fired, according to PCFIT. No deputies were hit by gunfire.
Cantrell fled the scene.
Nearby residents called 911 to report a male who appeared to have blood on him showed up at their property and asked for help. The male also allegedly entered homes and left after being confronted.
Police said the male matched Cantrell’s description.
Police used a K9 unit and drones to search for Cantrell for hours without finding him.
