BURLINGTON, Wash. — A barn owl that was trapped inside a Burlington Amazon warehouse has died after being captured and transported for care.

The Sarvey Wildlife Care Center told KING 5 the owl died shortly after it was picked up Tuesday from the Amazon Delivery Station Warehouse 3.

According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, agency staff and Amazon employees captured the owl and transported it to the Arlington wildlife center for evaluation.

Officials said the owl may have been malnourished after not eating since entering the warehouse last week.

Earlier Tuesday, WDFW said efforts were focused on allowing the owl to leave the warehouse on its own during evening or nighttime hours. If that failed, the agency said it would “consider other non-invasive techniques to shoo the owl out of the warehouse, such as potentially working with a falconer and trained falcon.”

WDFW later said the owl had been captured and transported for care. The Sarvey Wildlife Care Center later confirmed the owl died shortly after arriving.
