Court records say gunfire broke out inside a trailer after an argument over a missing dog, leaving one man dead.
RENTON, Wash. — A judge set bail at $1.5 million Friday for a man prosecutors say is tied to a deadly shooting inside a trailer in unincorporated Renton.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said prosecutors asked that the 28-year-old man be held on $2 million bail at his first appearance in the homicide case. After hearing from both sides, the court set bail at $1.5 million.
According to court documents, the case stems from a March 27 shooting at a trailer in the 16400 block of Southeast Renton-Issaquah Road.
Several people called 911 around 2:40 p.m. to report gunfire and screaming.
Deputies who entered a trailer found a man in the living room with a gunshot wound to the head.
He died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
Court records say witnesses told deputies the 28-year-old arrived at the trailer and began yelling about a dog that had been given away while he was in jail.
One witness said the 28-year-old ordered another man in the trailer to get on his knees.
Another witness said the 28-year-old also demanded the man hand over his car keys.
According to court documents, the other man inside the trailer also had a gun, and the two exchanged gunfire in the living room.
Investigators said the person who was killed was not part of that confrontation and was struck while in the room between them.
Witnesses told detectives the two shooters then left in separate vehicles.
Detectives wrote that the dispute had been building for weeks. According to witness statements, the 28-year-old had left his dog, Bubba, with his longtime girlfriend while he was in jail.
The dog was later staying at another man’s home in Kent, and people there eventually got rid of it.
Investigators said the 28-year-old blamed that man and had been looking for him before the shooting.
Detectives also found 9mm casings and .45-caliber casings at the scene, along with apparent bullet damage to a neighboring trailer.
