SEATTLE — Local women are coming together to make a lasting impact in their community, one home at a time.
The annual Women Build effort organized by Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties is set to take place from May 2 through 16, offering volunteers the chance to help construct affordable housing for families in need. The initiative has been described as one of the “most empowering experiences” for those who take part.
This year’s build is happening in Cloverdale and Yarrow Townhomes.
Women Build Ambassador Linda Hoffner says the two-week effort brings together volunteers of all backgrounds to work on building projects, support fundraising efforts, and help revitalize neighborhoods across King and Kittitas counties.
Participants will contribute to building affordable homes and strengthening communities. The program is designed not only to provide housing, but also to create a sense of stability and opportunity for low-income families.
Hoffner emphasizes that the impact goes far beyond construction. For families in need, these efforts can mean access to safe, stable housing — an essential foundation for long-term success.
“Sixty percent of Habitat homeowners are female heads of households, which is amazing,” Hoffner said, “[They get] more information about how to become a homeowner, but then also getting women out to the job sites to give back to the community to learn new skills and really help all of our members have a safe and affordable place to call home.”
Those interested in volunteering don’t need prior experience with tools or carpentry. Organizers say Women Build is open to everyone, regardless of skill level, and provides a welcoming environment to learn and contribute.
Community members can stay involved year-round through additional volunteer opportunities at Habitat stores and construction sites throughout the region. Another Women Build session is also scheduled for Sept. 9 through 19.
Organizers encourage anyone interested to sign up when registration opens in the coming months. By participating, volunteers help ensure that affordable housing continues to be built for hardworking women and families across the community.

The nonprofit says it marks 40 years of building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
The organization will welcome Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald as the featured speaker. According to Habitat, “He will share his insights on leadership, teamwork, and building strong communities, values that closely align with Habitat’s mission.”
In 2025, Habitat welcomed more than 1,400 guests who helped raise more than $2.7 million to support the mission.
