SEATTLE — June has arrived.
Often referred to as “Junuary,” the month can bring a mix of overcast skies and rain, but that shouldn’t dampen plans. This weekend offers maritime traditions in local cities, Pride Month celebrations and free admission to state parks across western Washington.

Here are five things to do in western Washington this weekend:
Duvall Days: June 5-6 – This festival celebrates the community of Duvall and the Snoqualmie Valley. Friday night kicks off with a 5K run and live music. Saturday brings the grand parade, local vendors, live music, games and a fireworks finale. More information is available here.
Pride in the Park: Saturday, June 6 – This free event features live music, drag performances, art, and queer and BIPOC businesses in the heart of Seattle’s Volunteer Park. Point Defiance Flower and Garden Festival: June 6-7 – This free event showcases Pacific Northwest gardening and June blooms. Enjoy workshops and tours, plant shopping, food vendors and more. More information is available here.
Maritime festivals: June 6-7 – Gig Harbor’s two-day festival features a “Stars and Stripes” themed parade, live music, a car show and goods from local businesses and food trucks. For those on the peninsula, the Port Angeles Maritime Festival includes a US Coast Guard search and rescue demonstration, a fishing derby, live music, kids zone and more on Saturday, June 6.
Free Fishing Weekend: June 6-7 – Across Washington state, licenses are not required this weekend to fish for various species. Licenses are still required for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, halibut and all shellfish. You can also visit any state park for free this weekend on a Discover Pass Free Day. Drivers traveling through Seattle this weekend should be aware of major traffic disruptions. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is set to fully close northbound Interstate 5 between Interstate 90 and Northeast 45th Street.
Lanes will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday, June 5, and will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 8.
The work is part of the Revive I-5: Ship Canal Bridge Preservation project.
Expect a cooler day with increasing rain and temperatures in the low to mid-60s.
Saturday will see a mix of sunbreaks and rain showers, with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms. Temperatures will drop a bit to the upper 50s.
