Plans call for Wild Waves to be demolished for 1 million-square-foot warehouse

A proposed warehouse on the Wild Waves property is expected to be fully built out in 2028, planning documents show.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The entire Wild Waves Theme and Water Park property would be cleared and replaced with a roughly 1 million-square-foot warehouse under newly disclosed project plans.

According to project plans submitted May 13 to the City of Federal Way, the proposed Panattoni Project Podium would redevelop the amusement park site at 36201 Enchanted Parkway South.

The property covers about 66 acres near Interstate 5, Milton Road South and Enchanted Parkway.

The plans call for a one-story warehouse measuring about 1,035,000 square feet, with truck loading areas and trailer storage. Three proposed driveways along Milton Road South would provide access for cars and semi-trucks.

The entire Wild Waves park would be removed as part of the project, the traffic analysis states. Full buildout is expected in 2028.

The project narrative assumes the building would generally be used as 98% warehouse space and 2% office space. The building would be about 46 feet tall.

The proposal comes as Wild Waves prepares to permanently close after its 2026 season. The park, which opened in 1977, previously announced its final day of operation is scheduled for Nov. 1, after its annual Fright Fest event.

Premier Parks LLC, which operates Wild Waves, previously said rising operating costs and millions of dollars in losses since the park reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown led to the decision to close.

The warehouse project is estimated to generate 1,517 vehicle trips on a typical weekday, including 445 truck trips, according to the traffic analysis. That includes 117 trips during the morning peak hour and 133 during the afternoon peak hour.

As part of the proposal, the applicant also plans to convert the intersection of 19th Way South and South 369th Street from a two-way stop to an all-way stop.

Plans also call for landscaping and existing trees and fencing to screen much of the project from surrounding roads and homes.
