Motorcycle hit-and-run on I-405 investigated as vehicular assault; major delays expected

Troopers are investigating a hit-and-run crash on southbound Interstate 405 in Renton involving a motorcycle and car as vehicular assault.

RENTON, Wash. — A serious injury hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle and a car shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 405 near Sunset Boulevard on Wednesday, causing major traffic delays through Renton.

According to authorities, two of the three southbound lanes are blocked as of 6 a.m. as fire crews and the Washington State Patrol respond to the scene. 

As of 6:20 a.m., the backup had reached over two miles, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. 

Troopers said the collision involving happened just before 5:15 a.m. and is being investigated as a vehicular assault hit-and-run. Authorities described the crash as a serious injury collision.

Investigators are working to gather a description of the vehicle that fled the scene. No additional details about the suspect vehicle or victim have been released. 

Drivers are urged to expect significant delays and use alternate routes while the investigation continues.
