SEATTLE — Across western Washington this weekend, you have plenty of options to roam garage sales, enjoy spring florals or even pet baby animals. It’s also Mother’s Day weekend with a forecast of mostly sunny and warm days ahead. 

Before heading out this weekend, be sure to check the major road closures listed below. 

Here are five things to do this weekend:

Olympia Wooden Boat Festival: May 8-10 — This waterfront festival honors craftsmanship and artistry at sea. Gaze upon wooden boats of all sizes while enjoying live music, local vendors and hands-on experiences. Free, open to the public. For details, visit olympiawoodenboat.org.

West Seattle Garage Sale Day: May 9 — Over 650 people are hosting garage sales during West Seattle’s annual community event. From furniture and art to homewares and clothing, thousands of items await to be your future treasure. Most sales are Saturday, and some continue Sunday. BonsaiFEST in Federal Way: May 9-10 — Celebrate World Bonsai Day and Mother’s Day at one of the few public bonsai collections in the world, the Pacific Bonsai Museum in Federal Way. The museum’s biggest weekend features hundreds of bonsai for viewing, live demonstrations, guided tours, local vendors, food trucks and more. Free, open to the public. Pike Place Flower Festival: May 9-10 — This weekend marks the 18th annual Flower Festival, a vibrant celebration of the local farmers and florals at Pike Place. In-season flowers include tulips, daffodils, irises and peonies. Enjoy live music and the market’s iconic offerings in retail, crafts and dining. Visting the market is free, bouquet for purchase. Baby animals and blooms in Buckley: May 9-10 — When it comes to the perfect weekend, Maris Farms has the right idea. See, pet and play with baby animals while enjoying fields of blooming flowers throughout the farm. This is the festival’s final weekend; tickets required.

Road closures to know

Drivers across the Puget Sound region should prepare for major delays this Mother’s Day weekend as several key highways and bridges face simultaneous closures tied to ongoing construction projects.

From May 8 through May 11, major restrictions are planned along Interstate 5, Interstate 405, state Route 99 and state Route 520.
