SULTAN, Wash. — Snohomish County officers rescued two 13-year-old boys from drowning near Sultan Monday afternoon.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a child drowning in the river near Sportsman’s Park in Sultan. Emergency services, including the Snohomish Sheriff’s Department, Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue and Sky Valley Fire, ended up pulling two young teens from the river.
Both boys were uninjured.
“Warm weather does not mean warm water. Rivers, lakes, and the ocean can remain dangerously cold. Cold water can trigger shock, causing gasping, panic, and rapid exhaustion, even for strong swimmers,” wrote Snohomish County Sheriff Department on social media.
Snohomish Regional Fire reported that the water temperature was 51.4 degrees Fahrenheit, which can induce cold water shock. The condition manifests as gasping for air, cognitive impairment, physical incapacitation and hypothermia.
