PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A fatal three-vehicle collision shut down a stretch of State Route 7 in Pierce County for several hours Saturday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers were dispatched at about 9:21 p.m. to SR-7 near Pilgrim Road East. Investigators say a motorcycle traveling northbound in a single lane struck a southbound vehicle. A second southbound vehicle then collided with the same car.
The motorcyclist, a 67-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other drivers were not injured.
After the impact, the motorcycle came to rest on the northbound shoulder, while both other vehicles stopped in the southbound lane. The roadway remained blocked for approximately four hours and 40 minutes.
Authorities say drugs or alcohol were not factors in the collision. The cause remains under investigation.
