TACOMA, Wash. — Two westbound lanes of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge have reopened after crews made emergency repairs to damage found under the bridge.
The lanes initially closed on Wednesday. By Friday afternoon, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said all repairs had been completed.
However, the agency said, travelers should expect additional closures in the coming weeks as crews “will need to do more repairs soon.”
The Tacoma Narrows Bridge as it stands today is 76 years old, built in 1950. The bridge has had eight emergency repairs between 2024 to 2025, all of which were related to bridge joints, WSDOT said.
While making other repairs on Tuesday, crews discovered “deterioration” on a structure supporting the joint under the two right lanes of traffic on the westbound side.
