Family and friends are rallying around the child and mourning the loss of two beloved community members.

MONROE, Wash. — A head-on collision on Highway 2 near Monroe killed three people in the early hours of Saturday morning, including a married couple, leaving their 4-year-old son without parents and a community in mourning.

The Washington State Patrol says a westbound driver attempted to pass another vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic, sending his car crashing directly into Maryanne and Dylon Craig. The driver who caused the collision also died. His passenger survived with injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.

The couple’s son, Corey, was not in the vehicle. He is now at the center of an outpouring of community support, with a fundraiser already underway on his behalf.

Rob Williamson, Maryanne’s brother, described the shock of losing both his sister and brother-in-law in an instant.

“It is hard to process,” he said. “It feels like it is not real life.”

Williamson says the grief hits him in waves.

“I’m thinking about memories of them, thinking about my nephew and their son, Corey, and what his life is going to be moving forward. And thinking about our families. It is just not going to be the same,” he said.

Maryanne and Dylon Craig were high school sweethearts who had built a life together in Snohomish County.

“They went to a lot of different events in their communities,” Williamson said. “I am sure they would have grown into huge role models and huge community figures if they had the time.”

As family and friends grapple with their loss, the response from the community has offered a measure of comfort.

“The community… reaching out, trying to give their support in any way they can for our families and especially for Corey, it means the world,” Williamson said.

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

“Our hearts go out to the family, friends and loved ones anytime someone loses their life on one of our highways and we extend our deepest sympathy to those affected by this incident,” a WSDOT spokesperson said.
