MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. — An overnight apartment fire in Mountlake Terrace displaced 22 people, including a child, and about 15 pets.
South County Fire officials said crews responded just after midnight to the Taluswood Apartments and found the three-story complex engulfed in flames with heavy smoke.
Two adults in their 20s and a dog were rescued from an upper unit, officials said. All residents were able to escape safely, with firefighters assisting people from 12 units adjacent to those affected.
The fire was upgraded to a two-alarm response, bringing about 60 firefighters to the scene. Crews worked to extinguish hotspots until around 2 a.m.
The American Red Cross is asking those affected to call 1-800-RED-CROSS, noting the number of people needing assistance may grow.
