PULLMAN, Wash. — A Pullman man will now spend 16-and-a-half years in prison after he admitted to shooting his friend in the head, saying meth use made him do it.

Jorge Amezcua, 31, pleaded guilty to the murder of Darcy Spracklin on February 6, the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday. The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Northeast California Street, an area commonly known as Greek Row on the Washington State University (WSU) campus.

Amezcua shot Spracklin in the head December 26, 2024, while the two were using meth. Amezcua told investigators the meth made him believe Spracklin wanted him to shoot him, the prosecutor’s office said. Amezcua was arrested in February 2025.

He must also serve three years of supervision after his release and was ordered to go through drug treatment.

“This case is such a tragedy and an unfortunate example of the dangers of drug use — however this resolution gives Mr. Spracklin’s family closure, certainty that Mr. Amezcua will be held accountable for his actions, hopefully address his substance abuse issues, and provide meaningful punishment for Mr. Amezcua’s irreversible action,” said deputy prosecutor Lindsi Alcantar.
