SEATTLE, Wash. — The right two lanes of the northbound state Route 99 are closed at the 1st Avenue Bridge in Seattle until further notice.
Maintenance crews closed the lanes late Wednesday and reduced the speed limit for northbound traffic to 25 mph following a routine bridge inspection, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The right two lanes reopen to traffic at the Michigan Street exit from the bridge.
Drivers should expect delays. There is currently no estimated time for reopening.
The closure comes as traffic into Seattle has already been slowed by construction work on Interstate 5 northbound.
The left two lanes of northbound I-5 are closed over the Ship Canal Bridge as part of the Revive I-5 project. This closure began in January and will last until the FIFA World Cup comes to town.
WSDOT bridge engineers will be back on site Thursday to continue their assessment.
