The Seattle Seahawks’ commanding victory over the New England Patriots included Jason Myers’ record-setting performance and total domination from the defense.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — From the kickoff to when the clock ran out, the Seattle Seahawks never trailed the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.

The Seahawks went into the playoffs with the best record in the NFL and the top seed in the NFC, and that success continued through their playoff run.

Here are a few of the factors that helped Seattle defeat New England 29-13 in Santa Clara, California.

The almost ‘Field Goal Bowl’

Seahawks kicker Jason Myers set a Super Bowl record with five made field goals in the game. Going into the fourth quarter, he was the only player to have scored.

Here’s a look at each of his kicks:

  • 33 yard FG at 11:58 in the first quarter
  • 39 yard FG at 11:16 in the second quarter
  • 41 yard FG at 0:11 in the second quarter
  • 41 yard FG at 9:12 in the third quarter
  • 26 yard FG at 5:35 in the fourth quarter

“It doesn’t even feel real yet,” Myers said after the Super Bowl victory. “Maybe in a few weeks it’ll feel real.”

Myers credited the team’s closeness as part of the reason for their success.

Kenneth Walker continues dominant performance

Running back Kenneth Walker III was named Super Bowl MVP. Walker has 135 yards on 27 carries in the game to cap off an excellent post season. Notably, some strong runs in the first half helped Seattle reach field goal range amid a defensive battle.

In the divisional game against the San Francisco 49ers, he notched 116 yards and three touchdowns, and added another 62 yards and a touchdown against the Rams in the NFC Championship.

Walker was in the final season of his rookie contract and will enter free agency, marking a potential shift in the Seahawks running game moving forward if Seattle doesn’t re-sign him.

All about those sacks

The Seahawks defense — nicknamed The Dark Side — shut down the Patriots on Sunday. Their pressure on New England forced errors and resulted in a six sacks. That’s just one shy of the Super Bowl record.

That pressure also resulted in three different turnovers, including an interception that Uchenna Nwosu returned for a touchdown with 4:27 left in the fourth quarter.

Coach Mike Macdonald’s youth

Macdonald became the third youngest coach to win a Super Bowl title with the win on Sunday. In just his second year with the Seahawks and in his first head coach position.

He was hired as the ninth coach in Seattle’s history in January of 2024.

Macdonald has point to the support from a number of key people at the Seahawks in helping him be successful, including John Schneider, the Seahawks executive vice president, general manager and president of football operations, assistant head coach Leslie Frazier, and Jody Allen, chair of the  team.
