SEATTLE — The Super Bowl hype isn’t just about the players this week. For one Seattle sports radio engineer, it’s about making history.

Brynna Rogers, a broadcast engineer for “Bump and Stacy” on Seattle Sports 710 AM, will become the first woman to engineer a play-by-play radio broadcast of the Super Bowl when the Seahawks Radio Network goes on air Sunday.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” she said. “I have to stop every once in a while and kind of, like, look around and take it in and remind myself that this is really cool and that not many people get to do this.”

Rogers has spent the season behind the scenes mixing audio levels, managing microphones and ensuring every broadcast goes smoothly. That includes key playoff moments — she was behind play-by-play announcer Steve Raible during Rasheed Shaheed’s touchdown return.

“You can see my feet in the background, like shuffling around,” she said. “I was like, oh, there’s my feet, like moving around in excitement.”

Rogers said her job involves balancing technical precision with quick decisions, often under pressure. “I mix their mics, I EQ them, I add dynamics, I put some compression and limiting on them,” she said.

Radio Row at the Super Bowl, the annual convergence of national talk shows and sports media, can feel like Grand Central Station, crowded and chaotic. But amid the bustle, Rogers’s presence stands out in a space long dominated by men.

“It’s a really hard field to get into for women, and add on top of that, the STEM aspect, and it’s even harder,” she said. “It’s like I got my foot in the door. Now I’m going to hold the door open for everyone behind me.

Rogers said she hopes her achievement helps make the path easier for other women wanting to work in sports broadcasting.
